Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers Roll of Honour

Eric Horwill
Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers is forever indebted to Eric who was a founder member of the Club. Eric was one of the clubs first qualified coaches and was instrumental in forming a united club where there was not a mens and womens divide.

Eric held many roles during his 60 years at the club and was awarded life-long membership in 1991. Eric was also the recipient of the British Athletics 'Unsung Heroes Award'.

Eric passed away peacefully at his home on the 11th October 2025.

Jim Skidmore
Jim was one of the founder members of Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers when in 1963, Dudley Harriers and Stourbridge, Wordsley and District Harriers amalgamated to form a new club based at the Dell.

Jim has many achievements to his name including becoming a centurian, a grade 1 timekeeper, presidents of both Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers and the Birmingham and District Cross Country League.

Jim was awarded a life long membership to Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers in 1991, the Club are indebted to him and will carr his memory with us. Jim passed away on 30th March 2025 aged 90 years old.

Wendy Cuff
Wendy became involved with Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers when her son joined the club in the 1980s. Wendy qualified as a track judge, travelling to meetings across the country to support Club athletes for more than 30 years.

Wendy was part of the Club's management committee for many years and became Club President in 2018, retaining the position for 3 years.

Wendy was made an Honorary life member of Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers in 2016 in recognition of her contribution to the Club.

Wendy passed away in 2025.

Ken Dworak
Ken was a sprints and relay coach with Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers for over 30 years, training athletes in distances ranging from 100m to 400m. Ken encouraged his athletes to participate in both league and open meetings, often travelling to the various venues to watch his athletes compete and offer support.

For many years Ken was an active member of the Club's management committee. He held the position of Coaching Co-ordinator and supported the development of new coaches.

In later years Ken qualified as a pole vault coach. He also sourced the necessary materials and expertise to make a pole vault thus adding a new event for both Club and visiting athletes.

In recognition of his commitment to Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers Ken was made an Honorary life member of the Club.

Ken passed away in 2018.

Brian Shepherd
Brian first became involved with Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers in the early 1980s when his son joined the club. He started by lending a hand at athletics meetings and was then encouraged to go on coaching and technical official's courses. He used his qualifications to train young athletes for middle distance and cross country.

From 2013/2014 he held the position of President of the Birmingham and District Cross Country League.

Brian was also really proud to be a qualified timekeeper. He travelled around the country with Jim Skidmore to officiate at cross country league and championship meetings.

He became the chairman of Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers in 1992 which was a post he held for 12 years. He subsequently became President of the Club, remaining in position for 4 years.

At the September Middle Distance Fest held at the Dell in 2023, the club put on a mile race in honour of Brian. It was called the Brian Shepherd Mile.

Brian Shepherd was made a lifelong member of Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers in the year 2000, in recognition of his invaluable help and commitment to the club.

Brian passed away on the 9th of June 2018.
